Biography / Info
Millionaire was formed around Tim Vanhamel, who formerly was a member of Evil Superstars and dEUS. David Schroyen, Bas Remans and Aldo Struyf became his partners in crime.
In 2001 they release their debut album ‘Outside The Simian Flock’, which is praised by the music press all over Europe. What strikes most is the fact they sound heavy and danceable at the same time. Amongst their fans are Muse’s Matt Belamy, Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) with whom they gig through Europe as a support act.
The bonds with Homme are tightened even more when Tim Vanhamel aka Timmy Tipover temporarily joins the Eagles Of Death Metal, a band formed by Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes. In the meantime Aldo Struyf joins the band of Mark Lanegan.
In 2005 Millionaire returns with a devilish album called ‘Paradisiac’ produced by Josh Homme. It’s even smarter, stronger and purer than their first album. Loose ideas have become a coherent structure, and the different influences have melted together into music for the next century. The songs seem to be fluctuating between avant-garde and pop. One could best describe this paradox as some form of sweet ‘rawness’, trashy and melodic at the same time, intense but full of variety, loud but comprehensible.
In 2006 Millionaire tours with the ‘Taste Of Chaos’ circus, playing throughout the States together with Deftones, Funeral For A Friend and many others. Recently they also provided music for the movie ‘Ex-Drummer’ (directed by Koen Mortier after a novel by Belgian writer Herman Brusselmans), including a cover of ‘Psycho Killer’, the classic Talking Heads song.
